Lindsay Monroe and Danny Messer were at lunch when the call came through the radio, " CSI Messer respond to 989 Yellow cres. for a murder crime scene."
" Well I guess I'll have to take a rain check on lunch." Smiled Danny.
" Sure." Replied Lindsay. " I'll see you back at the lab."
" Ya." Answered Danny.
As Lindsay headed back to the lab, Danny made his way to the murder scene, unaware that it could be the last scene that he ever investigated again.
When Danny arrived at the scene, he made his way into the house, not noticing that there were no police officers at the scene. He started to process the scene, when out of nowhere a man jumped him. Danny fell forward and smacked his head off a table, leaving him unconscience. The malicious villian was not satisfied, he figured Danny already knew too much, so he shot him. The bullet entered Danny's upper torso, just missing his heart. As Danny laid there unconscience and bleeding out, his mind configured a delusion.
" All officers respond to 989 Yellow cres. There has been an officer involved shooting. Medical assistance is required".
" Mac." Yelled Stella. " There has been an officer involved shooting."
" Who is it?" Asked Mac.
" It's Danny." Replied Stella.
" Is he okay?" Asked Mac.
" The police say it doesn't look good. I am on my way over to the crime scene now." Answered Stella.
As Stella and Mac rushed to the elevator, they ran into Lindsay, who was just getting off.
" What's the rush?" Asked Lindsay.
" There has been a shooting." Replied Stella.
Once Stella said that, Lindsay had a gut feeling that something had happened to Danny, since they never rushed to a shooting involving civilians, that was the polices job.
" Who is it?" Asked Lindsay in a panic.
" Lindsay." Said Mac. " It's Danny, they say it doesn't look good."
Lindsay was shocked, she felt sick to her stomach, she just wanted to burst out crying, but knew that it wasn't professional.
" Where is he?" Asked Lindsay.
" He is on his way to the hospital, we'll meet you there. We have to go to the scene and collect evidence." Answered Stella.
Lindsay froze, she didn't what to do.
" Lindsay, go to the hospital, make sure he is alright, Danny would want that." Declared Mac.
Lindsay got to her car and jumped in. She raced to the hospital. Unable to keep her emotions bottled up, she started to cry. She blamed herself for not going with him. She was getting so worked up that she didn't notice she was running every red light that was in her path.
Lindsay made it to the hospital, just as the ambulance arrived. She rushed over to see Danny lying unconscience, with a substancial amount of blood pouring out of his chest.
" Danny." Cried Lindsay.
They rushed into the hospital, where a doctor was already waiting to perform surgery, thinking that the bullet may have hit one of Danny's main arteries.
As time passed, Lindsay paced back and forth, thinking of the worst possible outcome, which would be Danny dying. While she waited Mac, Stella and the rest of the team arrived.
" How is he?" Asked Mac.
" I'm not sure, he lost a lot of blood and they say he might not make it." Sobbed Lindsay.
" It will be okay Lindsay, Danny is strong he will pull through. If not for himself, he will do it for you." Replied Stella. She gave Lindsay a hug to try and calm her down, but it didn't work.
After about 2 hours, the doctor came out looking a bit upset, causing them all to think something had happened to Danny.
" We have removed the bullet and stabalized him for now, but he lost a lot of blood, so we will have to keep him in ICU." Announced the doctor.
" Can we see him?" Asked Lindsay.
" I would say it would be best if only one of you went in at a time." Replied the doctor.
Lindsay looked at everyone as she started to tremble.
" Lindsay, go stay with Danny, we'll be back at the lab if his condition changes." Announced Mac.
The team left and Lindsay went to Danny's room. When she walked in, she burst into tears, it killed her to see him like that, tubes in his nose and wires going in every direction.
" Danny." Spoke Lindsay. " I am so sorry, I should have went with you, you don't deserve this."
As Lindsay sat beside the bed talking to Danny, Danny's mind was somewhere else.
It was Saturday morning, the sun was shining through the open window, the smell of coffee drifted through the air. Danny awoke to a surprise. He was in Lindsay's house, not aware of how he got there, thinking he must have had some wild night. He went down stairs, where he saw Lindsay turned away from him, making coffee. He went over to the table and sat down. " So, what happened last night, I don't remember anything?" Asked Danny. " What do you mean?" Replied Lindsay. " Well, how did I get to your house?" Asked Danny. Before Lindsay replied, she turned around and to Danny's surprise she was huge, not fat, but pregnant huge. Danny was shocked, thinking " what is going on?" " Danny, I know it has only been a year and a half that we have lived together, but I thought you were over the fact that we picked my house to live in and not your shoebox apartment." Answered Lindsay. Before Danny could say anything, he was over come with joy. " So you are saying we live together?" Asked Danny. " Of course. I am glad you have a good sense of humor. I knew there was a reason I wasn't worried about you being a father." Chuckled Lindsay. Danny looked surprised, but was still really happy, he always wanted to be a father and he knew he loved Lindsay ever since the day they met. Danny looked down and realized that he wasn't wearing a wedding ring, he hoped he had just left it upstairs, he really didn't want to upset Lindsay. " Lindsay, did I leave my wedding ring upstairs?" Asked Danny. " Seriously Messer, why are you acting so weird today. We are not married." Replied Lindsay, looking a bit confused about Danny's actions. " We're not. I just thought that since we have lived together for so long and are having a child, I thought we would have been married." Expressed Danny. " We'll I have to go out for a bit, see you later." Spoke Lindsay. As she headed towards the door, she kissed Danny and left. " What is going on?" Thought Danny.
Lindsay felt useless, with danny sitting there practically on his death bed and all. " Danny, please wake up." Mumbled Lindsay. She grabbed his hand and fell asleep.
When Lindsay arrived back at the house, she was surprised to see a path of rose petals leading to a candle lit dinner, where Danny was waiting for her. " What's this for." Asked Lindsay. " Well, I wanted to apologize for acting so weird and thought that since we were living together, I should make dinner for the girl I love." Replied Danny. Danny helped Lindsay to her chair and they began eating. Midway through dinner, Danny got up, went over to Lindsay, got down on one knee and said " I don't know how we got here, but I know I love you and have always loved you. I don't know why it has taken me so long to do this, but I know I will always be here for you and will never hurt you. So Lindsay Monroe, you are the love of my life, will you marry me?" Proposed Danny. Lindsay was shocked, she was so over come with joy that she gave him a kiss and said " yes, I would be honoured to be Mrs. Danny Messer." The days seemed to fly by uncontollably, as if it was on fastforward. The wedding day came and passed, along with their honeymoon. It was then time for Lindsay to give birth, so they rushed to the hospital where they had a baby girl, named Lucy Brooke Messer.
It was morning when Lindsay awoke, noticing that Danny was still in the same place he had been when she fell asleep. " Please wake up, I need you. I don't know what I'll do if you don't make it." Spoke Lindsay, as she started to cry. " Danny I love you. I have never been able to say that because I was scared, but I am saying it now and hope that you can hear me. Please Danny, wake up, I need you to know how I really feel." Sobbed Lindsay.
While Danny stood in the doorway to the house, a light appeared telling him that it was time to say good-bye, that it was his time to go. " What if I don't want to go, I am happy here I have everything I have ever wanted, Lindsay, a family, everything." Yelled Danny, but it was too late, the light pulled him in and said that if he really wanted it, he could make that life happen.
Lindsay was crying, when she felt a movment. She looked up and saw the gorgeous blue eyes of Danny Messer looking back at her. " Danny." Cried Lindsay. " Lindsay, what happened?" Asked Danny. " You were shot and the doctors didn't know if you would make it. I am so sorry for not going with you. If I would have went this would never have happened." Replied Lindsay. " It is not your fault sweetie, you are the one who pulled me through this. I had an amazing dream and you were in it. So if it wasn't for you, I don't think I would have made it." Replied Danny.
" Danny, I... I love you, and I think that it was time for you to know that. I am not scared anymore." Smiled Lindsay.
" Lindsay, I love you too, that's what saved me, it was your love. My dream was of us living the dream. We had a gorgeous baby girl, a beautiful wedding and a great honeymoon." Replied Danny.
Lindsay was speechless, she never knew that she had ment so much to Danny. She was over come with emotion and without thinking, stood up and gave Danny a kiss. As they kissed they failed to notice the rest of the team standing in the doorway.
" Should we get you a room?" Joked Stella.
Lindsay and Danny turned in a bit of embarrassment to see everyone standing there staring at them.
" We are glad you're okay Danny, but I guess we'll come back later so you guys can have some privacy." Spoke Mac.
Once the team left Lindsay looked at Danny and smiled.
